First time flying from Stansted?
Start with your airline's check-in deadline, then leave time for bags, security and the walk to your gate. Use the airport's current guidance before you travel.
Checked against London Stansted Airport guidance on 22 October 2026.
When to arrive
Stansted's first-time flyer guide says at least two hours before short-haul flights and three hours before long-haul flights. The airport also recommends validating your boarding pass at security at least two hours before departure. Check your airline's specific desk opening and closure times: they vary.
For an early flight, plan your journey to the terminal before you choose a car park or train. The airport's check-in guide has the current desk timings.
Follow this order
- Check in online if your airline allows it, and save your boarding pass.
- Confirm passport, entry requirements and baggage allowance with your airline.
- At the airport, use bag drop if you have hold luggage, then go through security.
- Check the departure screens for your gate and allow time to reach it.
